Sustainability
and Chemistry: Tomorrow's Challenge for Today's Students Distinguished
Lecture by Dr. Matt Fisher, Department of Chemistry, Saint Vincent
College, Latrobe, PA
March 3, 2010, 7:00 PM Wiser-Patten
Science Building, Room 102
Sustainability has been defined
as the ability of humanity "to ensure that it meets the needs of the
present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet
their own needs." What challenges does sustainability pose for the
current and future state of science, particularly chemistry? What
challenges do sustainability and chemistry pose for students who are in
college now and may want to continue for graduate work or look for a job
in industry? What challenges do sustainability and chemistry pose for
everyone? This talk will highlight some of those challenges as well as
the opportunities that sustainability and chemistry together offer to
individuals beginning their careers as scientists and to the general
public. Counselor Leadership
