2015 Tech Savvy Gaylord

Join us Saturday, April 18, 2015 in Gaylord, Michgian.  Tech Savvy is a one day conference for 6th through 9th grade girls and their parents or mentors and is designed to help excite students about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) hosted by American Association of Univeristy Women (AAUW) Gaylord Area Branch.  Attendees select from a variety of morning hands-on “Tech” workshops such as M&M’s (Magic and More Mathematics), Rocket Your World, and Digging DNA.  The afternoon “Savvy” workshops will focus on skills that girls can use in their daily lives such as Online Etiquette in a Digital Age, Communicating with Confidence, and Money Management.  Parents and mentors attend workshops such as Confidence in Guiding Girls for Success in STEM fields, Exploring College and Funding Options, and panel discussions by STEM career women.  Students and adults also visit resource tables with hands-on-exhibits from colleges and STEM employers.   The $7.00 registration fee includes breakfast, lunch and all workshops.  Online registration runs through April 1st at http://gaylord-mi.aauw.net/tech-savvy/  Also on the site are last year's video, slide show, and event program.  This is the second year AAUW Gaylord Area Branch has hosted Tech Savvy.  Due to the huge sucess and postive feedback, members are commmitted to ensuring the program continues for many years.  Tech Savvy has a proven track record, and was started 2006 in by the Buffalo, New York branch and in 2014 AAUW National offered grants for ten pilot sites accross the nation, including Gaylord, Michgian.  Follow Tech Savvy on Facebook for updates from sites throught the United States.
